Pros: once were value for money, and good service

Cons: deceptive practices make them more expensive than they appear, and quality has degraded

Comments: It's a shame that the reviews here aren't dated, and that the averaging of scores is apparently over a much longer period than it takes for an ISP to go to the dogs.

You get what it says in their terms and conditions, give or take connection quality, which has gotten progressively worse over the years.

Pay attention to those terms and conditions though. There's an "excess usage" charge, rather than shaping. The extra usage is charged reasonably, at $3/GB, but they don't make it easy for you to find out it's happening. No notifications when you approach or exceed your limit. They don't even send out invoices - they just debit your credit card.

In my case I just discovered that not only has this been happening, but the excess usage is less than I would have gotten on a current plan for the same price, had they notified me that it existed.

It's all there in the terms and conditions, but it's hard not to conclude that those conditions are designed to catch people out.

Similarly, if your credit card expires, and they get a notification from the bank to that effect, they don't get in touch, rather they repeatedly attempt to debit your credit card, which is obviously not going to magically un-expire, and each time they do it incurs a fee.

Again, it's not that they don't live up to the terms of the contract, rather that the contract terms are such that you should be wary of them.

Pros: Once you are connected, they are reliable

Cons: Overseas callcentre

Comments: TPG service is offline more often than it is on. I am constantly having to reset the router. When I have a problem, I have difficulty being understood by the overseas call centre people. My service has been disconnect twice in 2 months without a valid reason and it has taken hours of lenghty and frustrating phone calls to rectify. You get what you pay for, so save your sanity and go to another provider

Pros: The internet connection itself was ok

Cons: They will take you for granted

Comments: I signed up for a cable broadband internet plan. At the time I believe it was a 50 GB plan, which was split between peak and off peak times. While the service operated as expected, 25 GB in peak hours was just a little short of what I needed.

Here's where Optus' attitude towards their customers comes in. As I don't watch TV I wasn't aware that Optus had released a 150 GB plan for $20 a month less, and Optus sure as hell made no effort to tell me that I was being overcharged for a less capable service. If I hadn't called them, I would be still getting charged this amount to this day.

I eventually got the plan changed over, but then a few months later Optus started adding an additional 5% to my bill. It turns out that they just instituted a policy whereby those who don't pay by direct debit (in other words, those who don't like the idea of Optus sucking money directly out of their bank accounts) were getting hit with this new fee.

It's worth pointing out that I have had a mobile phone with Optus for around 8 years, and had used their internet service once before. All my bills in 8 years were paid on time, and for this loyalty they were charging me an additional 5%?!

The actual Internet connection itself was fine, but I would rather deal with the inconvenience of changing my mobile number and getting reconnected through another ISP than give Optus a single dollar more of my money.

Pros: there arent and pros anymore

Cons: they are money grabbers

Comments: I used to be really happy with aanet when we first joined but one day they change my plan without consent which in turn would cost me more each month. The connection is not reliable. They are only after more and more money. My download limit suddenly explodes every month out of nowhere and its rubbish. All they want is money, they dont care about their customers at all. If i were you I would ignore the obvious fake reviews at the bottom of the page!

Pros: Landline cheaper that other companies

Cons: Connection drops 6 times in 10 minutes

Comments: Used to be with the landline that is pretty good but when switched to bundle we started having problems with the connection which was dropping all the time, my son's holiday went to pieces because of that because he plays on his x-box online,Techs absolutely hopeless sending the automatic response instead of a real message, the phone and broadband seem to be two different companies that don't work with each other, got a modem from them that seems to be the problem but they want u to go and check it at someone else's place!!!???!! or to pay $165 if it is your modem (that u bought from them 1 year ago) or something that is inside your house which is not, because it sits on the bench top and u don't chew on them. And if u want to move u have to pay for a new number cause u can't use the one that u have with them!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!

Pros: Customer Service call you back before you've finished leaving a message, excellent technical knowledge and problem fixing, excellent communication skills

Cons: Well we'ld all like to have everything cheaper than it is, but you get what you pay for.

Comments: We pay approx $115 per month for internet, home phone line, voip, and calls. They are fantastic to deal with, fantastic to use, any problems... just give them a call. No problem!
I have no affiliation with iinet other than being a customer for the past 3 years, and westnet before them who have now been taken over by iinet anyway. We have had to cancel and reconnect due to moving properties and the connection costs have gone up each time, but now the are in alignment with other comanies so I do not feel it is unjustified.

Pros: lots of data

Cons: uhm where do I start?

Comments: TPG have to be the WORST isp I have used in 13 years, I left bigpond in hopes of more data, and TPG seemed to have that, but in the 2 years being with them, I have have found there tech support has to be abysmal, I have had line issues for 9 months now, and despite constant writing to the TIO, TPG and telstra, my lines wont get fixed, they say there is nothing wrong, even though a tech confirmed twice at my residence that there is interference, TPG techs keep rehashing the same crap over and over, "do an isolation test" "try another modem", they had to put a profile on my line for stability, and today I came home to find the profile has been removed, some brightspark tech at tpg removed the profile, now my connection is slow and unstable! thanks a lot! I need my internet for uni work, and this just sucks, avoid tpg! and these arnt all the problems, Ive always had problems and so have many users on my exchange who use tpg, last year it was months and months of packet loss for all, and all tpg techs would do is rehash, change the modem filter ad nausea, when the problem is on there end!

Pros: cheap plans

Cons: unreliable tech support, no email response, long wait phone support, unreliable accounting system

Comments: Customer service overall is appalling, most times I would wait for up to an hour for phone contact (all departments) and email contact doesn't exist. Technical support is a hit & miss affair, some of their techies are well knowledged but that is usually accompanied by arrogance and the trainees won't deviate from their set troubleshooting plans to listen to owner of the computer and past experiences. I was with Netspace for over 4 years..I kept giving them another chance, as it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Though, eventually I had to change and I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner! I have very little to like about Netspace...probably their plan prices are the their best asset but that wears thin when nothing else is of any quality.

I would NOT recommend Netspace to anyone. My daughter recently signed up to a naked DSL plan with them and after countless hours with technical support and a massive mobile phone bill she still doesn't have wireless connection even though she has paid for a modem with built in router. She does however suffer with anxiety over the whole deal and can't wait to be free from Netspace. Shocking company..should be shut down!

Pros: Great customer support, Great broadband service, Excellent customer service skills.

Cons: None.

Comments: I have dealt with a wide number of broadband companies, and never have I had such a good experience than that of iiNet. I'm a bit of a technical guy (i love I.T.) and I can tell when people know their stuff. iiNet has consistently gone above and beyond what they promised. Setup was simple, they explained everything in detail but knew how to explain it.

The broadband link was activated alot quicker than they said it would've been. Since then me and my other 2 housemates have been loving it!

A couple of months into the contract they upgraded our plan (and added an extra 20gb) for free, as a complementary gift.

Thankyou iiNet, so glad I didnt end up going with the other companies!!

Cons: expensive, ripp you off, send wrong router, bad connection, bad contact, no support, never calls back.

Comments: Hi,
the first router I received after a long wait for the connection was broken. I got the wrong replacement after another wait of 3 weeks. So I had to wait again for the second shipping. After nearly 2 Month I was online. Since then I am calling them about once per wekk because something is not working, or they try to (over and over again) book money for the wrongly send router from my account. Every time I have to give them the prove that the router has been send. Over and over again.
Do not go to them! Save your tme and nerves, there are many better options....

Cons: None so far

Comments: I just moved into a new place without an active phone connection. I don't need a phone so wanted to get Naked ADSL2.

Netspace is the only company that would connect me to Naked ADSL2 without first having to get Telstra or Optus to connect the phone line and disconnect it again.

This process saved me hundreds of dollars.

Pros: Very cheap, huge cap

Cons: Technical support is OK, but not great

Comments: After getting a "your service is going to be disconnected for commercial reasons" email from Exetel about six months ago, I switched to TPG.

It took a while to get the switch, because I used to be on Optus for telephone but TPG only work on the Telstra network, but once that was sorted it only took about 3 days.

Speed is fantastic (it feels faster than Exetel), I've never come within 20% of my cap, and it's been great so far!

Pros: Well known provider, staff are quite friendly

Cons: Took an absolute ridiculous amount of time for our connection to go live

Comments: Although this company has ok priced plans and reasonable download speeds, the service I have recieve was abysmal. It took 3 months for our connection to go live. Countless calls were made to the organisatoin, numerous days off taken for technincians (with nobody turning up!!!) and when our connection finally was approved, no form of compensation was offered for the headache we had to go through just to get connected. I would not recommend this provider to anyone and wouldn't sign up with them again, if I were paid to... I'm kinda wishing they had lost their case against the movie biz, now...

You can read about it here :

Why this deal is so great for me is that it actually comes with a 7" Asus Netbook which so great for using the internet anywhere. I love it. Also I get $400 worth of calls and text. Its only $30 a month but I wouldn't mind paying more for a little extra data. All in all Im very happy with dodo.

Pros: none

Cons: - It took one month to get connected but a few minutes to get disconnected. - Got disconnected early (before due date)- does not care about their fault. - Poor customer service - will lie to you to get you off the line. - Expensive

Comments: I have been a bigpond ADSL subscriber for about a year. Firstly it took about a month to get connected - which was painful but we got our service at the end, customer service kept on making excuses.

Then after getting a job overseas I had to exit the ADSL contract and after paying the outrageous early exit fees and stating to them to disconnect the service after one week (as I will still be at my residence for another week), Bigpond disconnected me straight away. I was right in the middle of sending an important business email - the sudden disconnection was almost traumatic as I had to send the important business document straight away.

I called the bigpond customer service stright away and told them about the situation - they admitted fault but was un-willing to correct the situation, the customer service attitude was basically "yes it's our fault, but too bad". They said they would have a manager call me about it, after waiting one day no one called, called them again and again customer service reps said a manager will call me back and that the situation has been escalated. 2 days later no one called - I have been abandoned - it was all lies.

Extremely unhelpful customer service reps.

I will never use Telstra or Bigpond ever again.

Pros: Their Accounts Dept are useless....

Cons: It's IMPOSSIBLE to contact them at all.

Comments: Two years ago, AAnet's service was reliable, value for money, and staff were helpfull. Initially I was happy enough to get a 2nd service for my church.
Earlier this year AAnet upgraded my plans without my consent, at a cost increase of $10 & $15 /month. They claimed they were discontinuing a number of services. They didn't! (at least not in the case of 1 of my accounts. NOW that I want to go back to the 256/64 plan that I signed up for (it's only email), I've got to pay a plan change ($25). On the other account they "upgraded" me to a 4Gb/month 512/256 plan at a higher cost than they offered their 5Gb 1500/256 plan. Can you speak to them about any of this? - NO!...
I regularly have issues with the accounts dept, usually regarding billing, you can't call them. If you want to pay a bill but can't access the internet (not that they've ever replied to an email!), forget it - their accounts dept. apparently can't afford a telephone line... When you do find a number (1300880692) it wont be from their website - their recorded phone promts will tell you that they won't speak with you - send them an email.(Not that they read these either, and I've never had any response!)

I've had such a gut full of over charges and credit card screw-ups from these clowns that I am now changing Providers, but I intend to raise my complaints with the ombudsman - maybe they'll respond to his office.

Don't Touch them with a Barge Pole!!!
